Spice Puffs
A family favorite when the kids were young
| 2 1/4 C sifted flour | 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon |
| 1/2 C sugar | 3/4 C milk |
| 3 tsp baking powder | 1/4 C vegetable oil |
| 1/2 tsp salt | 1 egg |
| 1/2 tsp mace | Oil for frying |
- Combine dry ingredients.
- Combine milk, oil, and egg and beat with a fork until blended.
- Pour into the dry ingredients and stir until blended.
- Drop the dough by teaspoonfuls into hot oil (375°, 3" deep).
- The puffs will usually turn over by themselves as they cook, but if they don't, flip them over to the other side.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Serve plain, or toss in a paper bag with cinnamon sugar (1 C sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon), or dip in a chocolate or orange glaze and then coconut or chopped nuts.
