Eternal Fruit
| 1 1/2 /c drained fruit (pineapple chunks, sliced peaches, 6 maraschino cherries | 1 1/2 C granulated sugar |
| 1 pkg. active dry yeast |
- Put ingredients into a large apothecary or glass jar with a loose fitting lid.
- Using a wooden spoon, stir the mixture three or four times the first day and once each day thereafter.
- After seven days, the fruit has made a "starter". Once you have the starter, continue to feed it every two weeks with 1 C drained fruit and 1 C sugar. Always stir the mixture lightly once each day using a wooden spoon.
- Do NOT refrigerate since that would stop the fermentation process. It looks pretty, so keep it where you can see it.
Things to remember:
- Always keep 1 C of the starter on hand.
- You might like to give 1 C of starter to a friend.
- The starter can be used 24 hours after feeding.
- Never place the lid on tightly.
